To the north of Sherpur were inaccessible hill and forest areas. Indigenous Koch, Garo, Hajong, Rajbangshi, Hadi, Banai, and Burmese people lived in these hill valleys. Wild elephants, wild buffaloes, tigers, bears, and many other wild animals used to live in these forests.
Indigenous feudal lords established separate kingdoms in the north and northeast of Sherpur in the 14th century AD. Garjaripa was one of them. These feudal lords came to an end in the late fifteenth century.
