Apart from Hindus and Muslims, Rajbangshi, Koch, Palia, Santal, Orao and Sunari districts have a total area of 1404.62 sq km and a total population of 9,8,844 as per 2011 population and housing survey.
Amarkhana Union under Panchagarh Sadar Upazila has a lovely large water body which is now known as ‘Maharaja Dighi’.
It is about 600×400 yards with edges. The bank is about 20 feet high and the water depth is about 40 feet.
There are a total of 10 paved ghats in Dighi.
It is believed that Prithu Raja dug this tank. It is said that Prithu Raja, along with his family and treasures, was attacked by a lower class called ‘Kichak’ and committed suicide in this tank for fear of apostasy.
Every year on the Bengali New Year, a fair is held on the banks of this lake.
